Description

In rundem Bildfeld mit Draperie links und Spiegel angedeutetes Interieur. Mittig das Klavier, an dem rechts Lotte spielt. Sie blickt zu Werther, der links auf einem Stuhl sitzt. Er umfasst das Schwesterchen zwischen seinen Beinen, dieses hält eine Puppe. Darstellung in reich abgestuften, weichen Halbtönen.

Inscription

Bezeichnet: Radiert unter der Darstellung mittig "Design’d by H. Kingsbury." / WERTER contemplating on CHARLOTTE’S Wedding-Ring. / My tears fell immediately she began to play the favorite, the divine air / which has so often enchanted me. I felt comforted by it, but soon it recall’d to / my mind the times that are past brief, disappointed hopes. / Publish’d Aug. (unleserlich) 1785 by John Harris, Sweetings Alley, Cornhill. & John Jeffrys (unleserlich) hill London." Verso beschriftet in Bleistift: "Telsa" (?); "34 x 38".
